Introducing The Heartwood

Beginning in spring 2027, we will open The Heartwood, a private 20-room retreat setting within The Shenandoah Nature Resort and the first place where invited guests will begin experiencing what we are building on the land.

Set on the other side of our 640-acre forest from the future main resort, The Heartwood is designed for privacy, community, and some of our deepest experiences. Its rooms are arranged to support retreat groups, leadership circles, and private gatherings, anchored by the rammed-earth Heartwood Hall for meals, workshop sessions, and time around the fire.

The full resort opening is planned for January 2028. When complete, The Shenandoah will offer 120 rooms and 40-plus daily activities across a much broader campus of wellness, spa, hydrotherapy, food, nature, and group experiences. The Heartwood will be a smaller early expression of that future: about a dozen carefully chosen experiences that allow us to begin shaping the rhythm, culture, and energy of the place before the full resort opens.

Early preview experiences include breathwork, nervous-system regulation, primal movement, contrast therapy, sound meditation, plant ceremony, rhythm-based group work, native plant walks, foraging, Appalachian herbalism, mindful hikes, stargazing, creative integration, food as medicine, fire gatherings, and guided reflection. It will only be a fraction of our future, but enough to begin revealing The Shenandoah’s spirit.

During this preview period, The Shenandoah will host invited stays at no room charge, with guests or sponsoring partners helping cover direct costs for food and practitioner support where appropriate. Our hope is to support aligned leaders while inviting their perspective into the culture we are building. Through time on the land, shared meals, guided experiences, and conversations around the fire, we will begin cultivating what we call The Shenandoah Energetic: a living field of safety, connection, and possibility.

We are hoping to attract conscious leaders, investors, entrepreneurs, artists, culture shapers, and industry disruptors who are helping shape a more regenerative future. People carrying meaningful work, asking better questions, and building with intention, courage, and imagination, even as they know success alone is not the same as wholeness.

And we believe the timing matters. Modern life has cut many of us off from the natural and social conditions that help us feel whole. We live indoors, move too little, work too much, and carry types of stress our bodies were never designed to hold. We have built systems that reward speed, scale, extraction, and endless growth, while so many people are quietly longing for steadiness, meaning, belonging, and repair.

The Shenandoah is our response to that longing. We see this place as a gathering ground for a different kind of leadership rooted in vitality, humility, reciprocity, and love. Leadership that understands culture changes through relationships, shared experience, and places where people can remember what matters.

We are trying to gather the right people at the right time, so the culture of this place can form with integrity before the doors open to the world. That is why we are beginning to ask: Who belongs at The Shenandoah during this founding chapter?

Who is leading in a way that feels courageous, generous, and ahead of its time? Who is building something our culture needs? Who is carrying work that could grow stronger in our environment when connected to other like-minded leaders?

As The Heartwood comes to life and construction continues across the broader resort, the physical place will keep taking shape. At the same time, the energetic is building, and we are so excited to see who this place is here to serve!
