MODERN ARCHITECTURE WITH A RURAL VERNACULAR

Arrival FINAL.jpg

EMBEDDED IN THE FOREST

The buildings will be a series of one-story structures immersed into the natural landscape with simple and elegant spaces that provide room for contemplation while being able to promote community and interaction. They will be placed in a way that minimizes disturbance of the earth while ensuring that every action on-site is unique and memorable. There will be no massive excavation and less than ten percent of the 550-acre site will be disturbed.

REFLECTING SHENANDOAH'S RICH HERITAGE

The design will use warmth and connection-to place to define material selection, including local Virginia stone, hardwood species and reclaimed finishes. We will use pottery throughout our interior design, reflecting the Valley's rich history, as well as local prints for fabric selection.

DESIGNED TO AMPLIFY NATURE

The architecture will capitalize on stunning views using biophilic design to ensure natural lighting, expansive viewsheds, thermal quality, etc. The buildings will blend the indoor and outdoors on the main campus, where guests will step into a food forest and newly planted chestnut groves. The campus will also have native meadow species and food generating ground covers and shrubs that are indigenous to the region.
