WELCOME TO OUR COMMUNITY SITE ABOUT A PROPOSED NATURE RETREAT

WELL-BEING, HEALTHY LIVING, COMMUNITY

Simply Shenandoah will offer wellness activities for adults. Guest experiences will focus on nature, play, energy and connection to help people lead a happier and more fulfilling existence while preserving and celebrating the rural character of the Shenandoah Valley.

FOR PEOPLE WHO
LOVE NATURE

With a “no cell phone” culture or TV’s in the rooms, typical guests will be regular people interested in slowing down to experience a rural lifestyle and disconnecting so they can reconnect. They may be experiencing a high-pressure job, a recent major life change (death, divorce) or an overscheduled and stressful day-to-day existence

The retreat is not intended for those requiring professional medical, substance, or mental health treatment.

LOCATED IN
STAR TANNERY, VA

The property spreads out over 550 acres of pristine forest on 1815 Turkey Run Road and was put under contract in mid-Feb. It is zoned Conservation (C1) which allows a “Rural Resort” with a special use permit. We received the special use permit in June 2019.

RENEW

Forest bathing, pottery, hiking, mushroom foraging, healthy eating, art, swimming, survival skills, etc.

HEAL

Yoga, massage, energy work, coaching, meditation, acupuncture, sound bath, dance, etc.

CONNECT

Fire pits, drum circles, family dining, board games, team building, hands-on group projects, laugha yoga, etc.

PRESERVING THE NATURAL ENVIRONMENT

We are committed to restoring and renewing the natural environment within a regenerative framework. We plan to conserve the land to ensure no future development. The campus will NOT have any asphalt for cars, paved areas for tennis and basketball courts, or massive land clearings for development or golf courses.  We will have a walking culture while having a neutral energy footprint and reducing waste (e.g. no plastic bottles!).

MINIMAL DISRUPTION

Once guests arrive, they will stay on-campus for a minimum of 3-nights and often longer.  Food and service deliveries will be consolidated to decrease road usage.  We will not host any large events involving non-guests. There will be no outdoor speakers or bright lighting on campus affecting the beautiful Star Tannery sky.

WIN:WIN FOR THE COMMUNITY

Our project will create over 130 full and part time jobs and open in the spring of 2022. It will diversity the tax base with sales and occupancy tax while not burdening the educational system. We’re excited to work with local businesses for construction, hospitality, trades and foods sourcing. We want to co-promote other local tourist attractions so guests stay longer in the Shenandoah Valley and also offer a membership program for neighbors.

The special use permit and our conservation plans will protect community interests.

MODERN, MINIMALISTIC ARCHITECTURE

In addition to guest and staff accommodations, we will have one-story structures for eating, education, arts, swimming, yoga. The architecture will reflect a biophilic design which focuses on connecting with nature to improve health and well-being. We will embed buildings into the forest and topography to create a feeling of being outside while protecting community views and serenity.
